Weddings
Engaged? Then congratulations! If you are thinking at this stage that you would like to get married at St Peter’s then the first thing to do is to speak to Patrick before or after one of the Sunday services. Once you have had the initial discussion and talked over dates with Patrick then Diane, our Operations Manager, will take over on some practicalities, paperwork and will talk you through the various options. It is worth noting at this stage that it is normal practice for at least one of the couple to have a connection to the church where they wish to get married. For example:
• Do you live in our parish?
• Are you a member of St Peter’s?
• Do you have some other connection to St Peter’s such as your parents were married here or you were baptised here?
Your banns will also need to be read out and this is done across 3 consecutive Sundays normally at the 10.30am service in the 3 month period before your wedding. These are the basics but do contact us to hear more.
Banns
If you live in our Parish and are getting married in a church you will need to have your Banns read in St Peter’s Church. Check to see if you live in our Parish.
Banns of Marriage will need to be read out in both the bride and the groom’s parish churches on three consecutive Sundays in the three months before the wedding. At the end of this you will receive a certificate which you will need to give to the minister who is marrying you. It is customary for couples to attend church for the calling of their Banns and we would love to see you at one of our Sunday services.
Click here to download and complete a Banns Application Form.
There will be a fee of £34 (£22 for reading of the Banns plus £12 for a Certificate). Fees are to be paid either by cheque or cash at least one month before the wedding (cheques payable to St Peter’s Church Fund). These charges are correct from 1 January 2009. Please contact the Church Office for further details.
Baptisms and Dedications
We baptise both adults and children and people often choose to dedicate babies. If this is something you are looking into then do get in touch with the clergy after one of the services on Sunday.
