Jubilee BBQ
On the day that Battersea became the focus for most of the world as the celebrations started for the Queens Jubilee, St Peter’s held its own ‘Big Lunch’ BBQ to bring together those from the local community, Battersea and beyond. The grey, overcast skies overhead did little to dampen spirits, and an enthusiastic team set-up the gazebos and BBQs flamed up ready for the Jubilee Jerk Chicken, burgers and sausages. People were arriving with multicoloured salads, while the children were excitedly painting bunting, singing and working up an appetite.
Afterwards the celebration, the doors opened to reveal a host of chargrilled delights to feed the hungry masses! There was a hive of activity with people serving others and helping each other to feel part of celebrations.
Demand for the Jubilee feast was high as the fantastic BBQ aroma beckoned friends of St Peter’s old and new, while many people came through on their way to see the Queen boat down the river. There were also a few fiery moments where the vicar saved us from burning our eyebrows a few times with quick reactions on the fire extinguishers!
It was a wonderful day of nourishment all round. Roll on the BBQs of ‘God Loves Battersea 2012′. Thank you to all involved.
